noticed yesterday that the user @friendlysock had been banned.
don't know friendlysock personally and not even sure I've ever interacted with them on here, but was surprised
to see that their account had been banned because find their contributions substantive and interesting. Checking
their profile, see that they've been a member for 11 years and contributed thousands of comments and stories.
Here 15 the conversation that led to the ban. It appeared in a subthread about a choice of mascot. I've slightly
adjusted whitespace and elided extraneous text. editing out names of the other users, as 1 don't want to drag

The mods here evidently did not take this likely, their own statement is this was the final straw in a long
long history. believe them, they are a long time user and banning long time users is always an
uncomfortable process that requires a lot of discussion. It seems like friendlysock forced the mod team's
hand on their own.
What they said was deeply, deeply unacceptable; and heavily insinuated the person they were targeting
was a pedophile whilst avoiding the responsibility of saying so directly. There was no “fair discussion”
here, only a veiled but targeted attack that more than deserved the response it got
