An Apple Silicon Мас Is Essentially
Bricked When Its Internal SSD Dies
All computers require a BIOS to start up the computer and allow the various hardware
components to communicate with each other. On PCs, this is handled a dedicated
BIOS or UEFI chip, a small inexpensive part costing maybe a few cents a piece.
In pennypinching, they have eliminated this chip and stored its contents on the
onboard soldered SSD, the highest wear part on modern computers: When the SSD
inevitably fails, the Mac will no longer have a BIOS and essentially becomes a giant
aluminium paperweight.
