Zone pivoted to youtube videos, a worse alternative, and then
ended up on VRChat trying to find some form of interactive
media for the internet again, brutal.
When flash got destroyed we spent a decade with nothing
while webdevs slowly stumbled towards WebGL, WAS\M, etc,
to get interactive media back, however when this was
completed all of this was specifically for programmers and not
artists, so this "alternative" was lacking in tools for artists and
we lost all the beauty of the internet, would say this was
worse than the iphone "bringing in too many newfags".
Flash dying took out all the art off the internet and left a
material designed husk.
We got ruffle but it's just to emulate the past and Haxe was
used to revive Flashes ActionScript and that gave one last
hurrah with Friday Night Funkin, and not it's all over.
thought Godot could have brought this back but even open
source projects shift away from web media basically
deprecating WebGL to a "Legacy Renderer" and wants people
to wait 10 more years for WebGPU, this is how developers kill
culture, creating standards with no artistic tools to use those
standards, and then immediately killing the standard to waste
another 10 years on another standard, that will release on
browsers with no tools for artists to use it, forever.
